Oh, sure, I know the wedding at home isn’t for everyone. And I’m not even talking about backyard weddings, but rather weddings that take place inside. Your house. Or maybe your parents’ house if you’re still living in a triple-decker in a town where parking is all but impossible. Why have your wedding at home? Here are seven reasons that might just push you over the edge if you’re considering having your wedding at home:
1. A small wedding that takes place right in the place where you live can be easy to plan and execute – if you have the space, that is. One thing to consider is that you may need to rent amenities – seating, linens, etc. – if you even suspect you won’t have enough to go around.
2. Getting married at home can save you a lot of money. First, there’s the fact that venue rental tends to eat up a ton of the standard wedding budget. And second, getting married at home often means a less complicated spread of refreshments, perhaps even provided by loved ones instead of a professional caterer.
3. Your place may be THE perfect venue for a cozy small wedding. Heck, my place, which is tiny and doesn’t boast much of a usable backyard, was nonetheless a beautiful venue for my mom’s very small wedding. But of course, there were only ten guests – we probably could have supported 20 comfortably. No more than that, though.
4. There’s something lovely about waking up in your own bed, have a lazy cup of coffee, and getting dressed in your own room – no need to worry about whether you’ve packed your wedding day emergency kit!
5. It may be a rather stressful period of cleaning up and home improvement, but your house will never look better than it does in those few days leading up to your wedding. Afterward, provided that none of your guests does anything terribly weird or disgusting, your house will still look pretty darn sharp.
6. According to The Beard, there’s a personal touch to at home weddings that what he called a “vendored wedding” just can’t match. Not that there’s anything overarchingly impersonal about a wedding at a venue, but there’s definitely a unique sense of intimacy to weddings held in someone’s home.
7. And in the end, when the last of your wedding guests has finally left, you are already home. No wedding limo necessary. No need for a designated driver. No getting into a car in your wedding dress. Nothing to do but flop onto your bed to enjoy the some post-wedding sex or post-wedding sleep, depending on your preference!
